Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to all my followers and friends, I do hope 2017 is an amazing year for all of you!
I look back at 2016 and, although a tough year in some respects, it had some great highlights that are what will make 2017 even better. For example, our Christmas Day Lunch was spectacular as well as our New Year’s party that was enjoyed by all with some returning guests and a few new ones who have now become part of the family.
We launched in December a “Share your picture & win” with a required hashtag of #umthunzimemories and #umthunzihotel on facebook.
Pleased to announce we have 2 winners… see our post on th 26th Jan on our Facebook page! Make sure you get to Umthunzi, take a photo and then share it, so we can award some more prizes, which we will do each month. We would love to share in the fun and special memories you have at our hotel.
Looking forward into the next few months:
2017 is looking to start off with a bang. In January we ran our “BEEG” accommodation special” at a silly price, which was a huge success.
Now, to spoil you more, we have the same amazingly low rate Valentines Weekend Special for the weekends on either side of Valentine’s Day! Plus a mouth-watering Valentines Dinner planned for the 14th February, suggest you book now to avoid disappointment.
Our much awaited Craft Beer, Food & Wine evening is back on the 10th March with a Joint Golf Day on Saturday 11th with Shelly Beach Rotary. Should be an incredibly fun weekend. Those of you who managed to participate last year will know the Friday evening was amazing. This year we have already got the following suppliers keen and wanting to participate: Coke (hopefully something like last year’s Cherry Bomb) Brand House, DGB, Ernie Els Wines, Flagstone Wines, Neil Ellis, loads of Craft Beers, some premium spirits and Dee the Oyster Lady is back to entice you to try something new. We are just waiting to confirm a little band to play some Rock n Roll whilst we participate in the samples and the battle to choose from the Mexican, Mongolian or South African food sections. Again, book early! Stay over at a great rate and enjoy the golf day on Saturday.
Last year the Saturday golf was something else too. Knowing I won it with my golf buddy, Grant Peterson, we will be contesting the trophy. It might be hard with the latest medal round I played at 79 off a 16 handicap.. so a Net 63. Needless to say I am now a 13 Handicap and Grant is a 14, so we might have even opened the door for the most playing team from JHB??
We are looking to also add a difference to our Sunday Lunches by having a South African Spit/Braai theme every first Sunday of the Month as it was a huge hit on the 1st of Jan. We had a Lamb/Pig/Chicken on the Spit + Oxtail/Lamb Neck in the Potjie + loads more. So, something to diarise and get down here to enjoy.
Weddings and conferences are booking up fast too, as word of mouth travels about what Umthunzi offers.
On a personal note my son is almost 2 now. Much dedication is required to look after that little guy with all the words starting to flow and I would say, these little change of childish opinions are not for the faint hearted! But he is a treasure. A few staff here also have the “joy” of dealing with little ones…the 2am TV session, the love/hate of food as well as the being oh so independent. How we deal with our kids affects how they actually deal with the big world one day. So I wish all of you with little ones ….good luck!
I hope to see you soon here at our beautiful hotel and maybe, if you are thinking of joining us for the March weekend, get started on the essential tablets to help the liver cope on the night and that golf swing in practice
